The present article shows, by the light of the mythanalysis approach, how much The guard of Tahar Djaout is inspired by The forgotten hill of Mouloud Mammeri through the representation of two essential figures which personified the two poles of the berber culture and character. Lemdjed, the intellectual, inventor of the weaver machine, symbolises the pomethean dimension, while Menouar Ziada, the shepherd, reprensents the dionysiac dimension.
