Abstract

The authors question the notion of sociolinguistic variation by exploring the verbal repertoire of some youth, living in Algiers. Through an interactionist sociolonguistic approach, they show the extent to which it would be too SIMPLISTIC to analyze the language practices along tics vision. They sustain a continuum perspective through which the verbal exchanges among the youth are analyzed along a continuum of linguistic phenomena, ranging from code swiching (CS) to fused codes (FC) passing through code mixing (CM).
